What We Need Most Today
My thoughts turn to peace. Not the tie-dyed, generationally-strained word but the true and compelling concept that bridges generations and societies and enemies together.Peace.
Where does yours come from?
I know since this is a blog written by a disciple of Jesus you assume the answer is either "Jesus" or "God" but I want to push a bit harder than that.
Really?
If our source of peace in this life is Jesus, then what does that really mean? As we look at politics, economics, relationships, etc. and we see where the "un-peace" comes from, how does Jesus actually offer a valid solution to that?
If we're afraid Candidate A will bring us war and social disorder, then do we have peace through Jesus? If we're experiencing relational turmoil, how does Jesus bring peace to that?If we are financially crippled and struggling, how does Jesus bring peace in that situation?
The honest truth is this: if Jesus is our source of peace, we will respond to anxiety and conflict as He did.
With contentment.Relaxed.Confident.Trusting.
We don't have to respond to the urgency that is forced on us from the outside or from our inner drives that panic at the least sight of fire. We can say to them,
Be still and know that I am God. (Ps. 46:10)
I encourage you today, of all days, to look beyond the surface of what is happening and ask that penetrating question:
If Jesus is my source of peace, then what difference is His peace making in my life?
I encourage you to reflect on this passage and ask God to engage in this peace discussion with you today.
Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light. (Mt. 11:28-30)
