A Bit about Me…
It is hard to write this without it sounding like a dating profile…but here we go…
I have been involved in the work of spiritual formation for nearly 25 years. Through various positions in churches, seminaries, and para-church organizations, my work in writing and speaking have aligned to create content that is wise and helpful for the journey of life and faith.
I earned my Master of Divinity degree and Doctor of Ministry in Spiritual Formation degree from Lincoln Christian Seminary (Lincoln, IL).
I completed the Tending the Holy spiritual direction training program in 2015, and since then I’ve been able to provide spiritual direction to individuals both privately and as the Director of Spiritual Direction at Soul Care. Soul Care provides spiritual direction to church, parachurch, and non-for-profit leaders so that they can lead from a place of soul health & soul flourishing.
I am the author of three books, Becoming Curious: A Spiritual Practice of Asking Questions (2017) and The Practice of Remembering: Discovering the Place of Memories in Our Spiritual Life (Re-release 2024). The book The Practice of Remembering was awarded the 2020 Award of Merit in Spiritual Formation by Christianity Today.
My most recent book is The Gift of Restlessness: A Spirituality For Unsettled Seasons (April 2023). In this book I talk about how the irritated & unsettled places of life are actually the places of spiritual transformation - if we’d only learn to stick around and learn from that restlessness.
I’m also the host of the Restlessness Is a Gift podcast where we talk about the ways in which the restlessness of human life is actually a wonderful wilderness where we meet the Divine.
My wife Holley and I have been married since 2000 and we have one daughter named Bailey. We live in south suburban Chicago, IL.
