Grunt Work

And Stephen, full of grace and power, was doing great wonders and signs among the people. (Acts 6:8)

The fascinating thing is that Stephen comes into the story of Acts with a specific job.

Stephen was a waiter. He was one of seven chosen to make sure that all the widows in the early Christian community were fed. He managed the food pantry, and basically "waited tables."

Yet it is Stephen who is killed for his faith. It's Stephen who is doing great signs and wonders among the people. Jesus promised that His disciples would do greater works than even He Himself had done.

That includes Stephen.

This is important to remember when we feel like whatever efforts or work we're doing as a part of God's Kingdom seems menial and insignificant.

Signs and wonders happen through those who bus tables for widows in need. Don't run from God's grunt work. There's real power in it.
