The Church's One True Task

“Spiritual formation is the task of the church.”(James C. Wilhoit, Spiritual Formation As If The Church Mattered)

A great quote, and not just because I’m a spiritual formation “guy” – it's great because there is something powerful about believing that everything that has to do with God and His mission in the world is doing formation work in us. It’s building life as a new creation with the good raw materials that are within us as people created in the image of God as well as helping us dismantle the broken pieces that are in us as a result of sin.

Do you agree with Wilhoit? Could it be that everything that happens in the church is for the purpose of the “spirit of Christ being formed in us?”

If so, is there anything that has to change about the life of the church so that it lives up to its God-given task?
