Lies and God
I’m taking some time away from the blog for the next few weeks to refresh and renew myself. Following in the footsteps of uber-blogger Michael Hyatt I’m reposting some of my favorite posts from the past. Enjoy. Yesterday I had the blessed pain of officiating the funeral of a young man, 26 years old, who passed tragically from among us. Comfort is hard to come by when reason fails us. I was lucky that I had read the story of a God who surpassed our reason. Still thinking over this event myself. I will probably be thinking through the conversations I’ve had in the past two days for a long time to come.
Something else for today.
Reading this morning from Titus 1, I caught myself on this idea:
“…in the hope of eternal life that God, who never lies promised before the ages began…” (Titus 1:2, NRSV)
My question was this: Who REALLY thinks God is a liar? And who thinks he’d lie about eternal life?
As i meditated on this another question popped up – Do we really listen closely enough to God to know the CONSEQUENCES of God not telling the truth?
Are our lives constructed in such a way that if God is a liar then we are not only idiots but we are wasting everything that we have?
Are we banking on promises, and building our character on promises, that if God is pulling a fast one on the world then we are completely misguided?
How are you living today that would be utterly fruitless if God is a liar?
